MY BIGGEST STRUGGLE

At the beginning, I felt really overwhelmed with what to eat and how, until I got my custom meal plan from my Registered Dietitian. After a couple weeks of logging, most of my numbers were in range, except for fasting — so I got put on insulin. Each time the doctor adjusted my insulin, it was moved up by 2 units.

Single-handedly, the hardest part was learning how to give myself INSULIN shots.

MOST USEFUL FEATURE

Being able to share the report with my perinatologist and diabetes specialist was fabulous; it was helpful for them to see my trends.

most useful tip

By logging consistently with MALAMA, I could identify three major insights:

1

Eating the protein on my plate FIRST really helped me balance my sugar levels.

2

High-protein bedtime snacks helped control my fasting levels the next morning.

3

I found foods that didn’t spike me, and stuck with them! For me, it was almonds, so they were my go-to-snack

MY GRADUATION STORY

My baby was born healthy in week 39. I was so happy to meet him and learn that all of my efforts had been worth it! My HbA1C was fine postpartum, so I don’t monitor consistently now.

Since having GD, I’m definitely still aware of what I’m eating and I have a few remaining habits from my pregnancy. I notice how many vegetables are on a plate at a given time, I try to eat protein first before sweets, and I try to include protein in my snacks.
