No two journeys are the same, especially in pregnancy. However, it feels less lonely to know that other parents experienced similar struggles

In Mika’s own words:
MY BIGGEST STRUGGLE
I struggled the most with my post-meal blood sugar levels. I had a hard time finding a meal plan that worked, because I already had a healthy diet before my pregnancy. This meant that the standard menus I was sent recommended ingredients and portions I had already been eating, yet they spiked my levels. I was also not used to incorporating so many carbs in my meals.
most useful tips
By logging consistently with MALAMA, I identified three major insights:
1
When I ate raw veggies first in my meal, it helped me keep my blood sugar low .
I wasn’t eating snacks consistently, which made it harder to maintain consistent blood sugar levels (and led to bigger spikes after meal time!)
2
3
I noticed lower blood sugar readings when I exercised for at least 10 minutes after a meal.
After figuring this out, I remembered to eat raw veggies first, snack more often and take walks after meals, in order to keep my condition in balance.
MY GRADUATION STORY
When I was diagnosed I felt like I had already failed at providing a healthy environment for my growing son. Between finding a (reimbursed) glucometer + strips to tracking blood sugar levels + meals, managing my GD felt like a part-time job.
But it was so empowering to see how quickly I could implement the changes I needed! I was eventually able to get my numbers in control.
I gave birth to a healthy baby boy, through vaginal delivery, and he has since grown to be the most curious and loving toddler.
