REMINDER: CHOOSING HEALTHY FOODS

Do you remember what healthy foods are and how to pick them? In this lesson, we’ll review what foods are healthy and how to make smart choices

Healthy Food Basics

To stay healthy and avoid type 2 diabetes, it's important to know what's good for your body. Healthy food is like a superhero for your health. It should be:

  • Low in calories, fat, and sugar.

  • High in fiber, water, vitamins, minerals, and protein.

That's the good stuff you want to fill your plate with!

What to Avoid

But wait, there's also food that's not so good for you. You should limit:

  • Food high in calories, fat, and sugar.

  • Food low in fiber, water, vitamins, minerals, and protein.

These are the not-so-healthy foods that you want to eat less of.

Healthy Plate

Do you remember how a healthy plate should look? A healthy plate has:

  • Half filled with non-starchy veggies.

  • A quarter filled with grains and starchy foods.

  • The last quarter with protein foods.

But there's more! You can also have a small amount of dairy foods, a small amount of fruit, and a drink with low or no calories.

So, remember, healthy food makes your body strong, and it's all about balance. In the next lessons, we'll explore how to shop for these healthy foods and how to cook them in a way that's both delicious and good for you. Stay tuned!
