Lesson 2: Ana’s Journey - Breaking Through the Stall

Meet Ana, a mom on a mission. Learn from her experience:

Meet Ana, eight months into the adventure of motherhood with her baby boy Lukas. Ana, just like many new moms, faced the risk of type 2 diabetes, but she wasn't about to let that define her story.

Ana set a goal for herself – to bid farewell to 22 pounds that lingered post-pregnancy. With determination and a heart full of love for her baby, Ana embraced a new lifestyle – one filled with nutritious meals and enjoyable activities.

In the initial six weeks, Ana triumphed, shedding an impressive 12 pounds. That's an average of two pounds per week – a feat worth celebrating. However, as she approached week seven, Ana encountered a gentle pause in her weight loss journey, only shedding half a pound. Week eight brought another surprise – no change at all.

Before her weight loss journey, Ana weighed 168 pounds, requiring 1,750 calories a day to maintain her weight. Now, at a healthier 156 pounds, her daily calorie needs dropped to 1,650, a difference of 100 calories. However, as a breastfeeding mom, Ana knew she needed an additional ~400 calories to nourish herself and her little one.

Ana, being the determined soul she is, recognized this change and decided to set new goals for her eating and fitness routines. Small adjustments became her secret weapon. She swapped her 16-ounce coffee with whole milk for a 12-ounce coffee with skim milk at breakfast. Ana also introduced resistance bands into her TV time, turning a sedentary moment into a calorie-burning, muscle-building opportunity.

Considering her role as a breastfeeding mom, Ana ensured she added the extra calories needed for nourishing baby Lukas. The impact of these small changes was remarkable. Ana found herself shedding one-half pound every week, all while maintaining a healthy breastfeeding routine. It was a testament to her commitment and the power of making thoughtful, sustainable choices.
