Which meter is most accurate for tracking blood sugar levels

… while managing gestational diabetes?

Several studies have compared the accuracy of different glucometers for measuring blood glucose values (TLDR; the Contour Next EZ has been found to have the highest overall accuracy, though the American Diabetes Association recommends working with a healthcare provider to determine which glucometer is best for you):

  • One 2020 study published in the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology compared the accuracy of three different glucometers for gestational diabetes. The study found that the Contour Next One had the highest overall accuracy, with a mean absolute difference of only 2.5 mg/dL when compared to a laboratory reference method. However, the Contour Next EZ was also found to be accurate, with a mean absolute difference of only 3.5 mg/dL.

  • A study published in the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology in 2018 compared the accuracy of four different glucometers for gestational diabetes. The study found that the Contour Next EZ had the highest overall accuracy, with a mean absolute difference of only 4.4 mg/dL when compared to a laboratory reference method.
